Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist/Microbiologist to join our dynamic team in Rotkreuz, Switzerland. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in conducting complex laboratory analyses, focusing primarily on microbiological and molecular diagnostic techniques. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex microbiological analyses, including culture, identification, and susceptibility testing of various pathogens.
  • Execute molecular diagnostic assays (e.g., PCR, qPCR, sequencing) for infectious disease detection and characterization.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of laboratory instrumentation, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate new laboratory methods and protocols according to established guidelines.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, documenting findings accurately and comprehensively.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting technical issues and implementing corrective actions in laboratory processes.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality control procedures, safety regulations, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GLP, ISO 13485).
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and methodologies to enhance laboratory capabilities.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing.
  • Prepare and present scientific reports and summaries to internal stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) working in a clinical diagnostic or research laboratory environment, specifically with microbiological and molecular techniques.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of bacterial, viral, and fungal culture, identification, and susceptibility testing.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and data management practices.
  • Excellent aseptic technique and sterile working practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (e.g., ASCP, equivalent Swiss certification).
  • Experience with automated microbiology systems and high-throughput molecular diagnostic platforms.
  • Knowledge of GLP/GMP and ISO 13485 regulations.
  • Experience in assay development and validation.
  • Basic understanding of statistical analysis for data interpretation.
  • Fluency in German or French is a plus.
