Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), also known as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), to join our dynamic Core Lab team in Midtown, Sacramento. As an integral part of Sutter Health, you will play a critical role in patient diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by performing a wide array of complex laboratory tests with precision and accuracy. This is a full-time, on-site position where your expertise will directly impact patient care through the analysis of biological specimens. You will operate advanced laboratory equipment, interpret test results, and maintain strict quality control standards across various disciplines including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex laboratory procedures and tests on blood, urine, and other body fluids using automated and manual methods.
- Operate and maintain a variety of clinical laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and calibration.
- Analyze and interpret test results, correlating data with patient medical history and other clinical findings.
- Implement and adhere to strict quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Troubleshoot technical problems and instrument malfunctions, performing corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare and analyze samples, ensuring proper specimen collection, handling, and processing.
- Document all testing procedures, results, and quality control data accurately and comprehensively.
- Communicate critical results to physicians and other healthcare professionals in a timely manner.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new laboratory personnel and students.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in compliance with all regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
Required Skills
- Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 36 months (3 years) of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
- Proficiency in performing tests across multiple laboratory disciplines (e.g., Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical laboratory setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and other relevant computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized experience in Blood Bank, Microbiology, or Molecular Diagnostics.
- Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as an MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP).
- Master's degree in a related scientific field.
- Experience with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies in a laboratory environment.
