Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technologists in preparing patient samples for various laboratory analyses.
  • Learn to perform basic laboratory tests under direct supervision, including routine urinalysis, hematology counts, and basic chemistry panels.
  • Prepare and label reagents, solutions, and culture media according to established standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, glassware, and work areas to ensure a sterile and safe testing environment.
  • Accurately document test results and other relevant data in laboratory information systems (LIS) or manual logs.
  • Adhere strictly to all quality control standards, laboratory safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
  • Participate actively in all required training sessions and ongoing professional development programs.
  • Properly handle, store, and dispose of biohazardous waste materials according to safety regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and notifying supervisors of low stock levels.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding sample status, testing progress, and any discrepancies or issues.
  • Perform routine calibration and maintenance checks on laboratory instruments as instructed.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Demonstrated strong interest in medical science, laboratory work, or healthcare.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to meticulously follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program (recent graduates encouraged).
  • Completed coursework in biology, chemistry, or other related life sciences.
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory safety procedures.
  • Volunteer experience or internships in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
  • Willingness to pursue certification (e.g., ASCP) upon meeting eligibility requirements.
