Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mechanic (Motor Vehicle/Motorcycle) to join our dynamic maintenance team in Dutse. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive inspection, accurate diagnosis, efficient repair, and routine maintenance of our diverse fleet of motor vehicles and motorcycles. This critical role ensures the safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of our transport services, directly contributing to the well-being and daily commute of thousands of citizens. You will work within a fast-paced environment, utilizing your extensive technical expertise to address a wide range of mechanical and electrical issues, from routine servicing and preventative maintenance to complex engine overhauls, brake system repairs, transmission work, and intricate electrical diagnostics. Your unwavering commitment to quality workmanship, strict adherence to safety standards, and proactive approach will be paramount in maintaining our fleet’s excellent condition, minimizing operational downtime, and extending the lifespan of our assets. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostic tests on a variety of motor vehicles and motorcycles to accurately identify mechanical and electrical faults using specialized tools and equipment.
  • Conduct thorough routine inspections and preventive maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, brake system evaluations, and general vehicle tune-ups.
  • Execute the repair and replacement of defective parts and components such as engines, transmissions, clutch systems, suspension systems, steering, electrical wiring, fuel systems, and exhaust systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to engine performance, ignition systems, fuel injection systems, cooling systems, and braking systems for both two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles.
  • Perform minor and major overhauls of internal combustion engines and their associated components, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
  • Ensure all repairs, maintenance work, and component replacements strictly comply with manufacturer specifications, industry best practices, and all relevant safety standards.
  • Maintain precise and detailed records of all maintenance tasks performed, repair work undertaken, parts used, and vehicle service history.
  • Advise the fleet management team on necessary repairs, potential future maintenance requirements, and provide accurate estimates of repair times and costs.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Continuously stay updated with the latest automotive and motorcycle repair technologies, diagnostic tools, and evolving best practices through ongoing learning and professional development.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Mechanic.
  • Exceptional diagnostic and problem-solving skills for complex mechanical and electrical systems across various vehicle types.
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of diagnostic tools and equipment, including OBD-II scanners, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized hand tools.
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of all vehicle and motorcycle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, and fuel systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex repairs, component replacements, and complete engine overhauls.
  • Solid understanding and strict adherence to all safety procedures and regulations within a demanding workshop environment.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, precision, and meticulous attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and accurately apply information from technical manuals, repair guides, and electrical schematics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical or vocational certificate/diploma in Automotive Technology, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of vehicle brands and models, specifically including commercial buses and vans.
  • Familiarity with modern fleet management software and digital record-keeping systems for maintenance.
  • Basic computer literacy for accessing repair manuals, diagnostic software, and documentation.
  • Valid Class G (or equivalent) driver's license for testing vehicles.
  • Specialized motorcycle repair certification or advanced training in specific automotive systems.
