Job Description

The Gombe State Water Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a wide range of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and other construction machinery vital to our water infrastructure projects. This role requires a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and various mechanical components. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver, capable of working both independently and as part of a team. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance, ordering parts, and ensuring the equipment is always in optimal working condition. This is a hands-on role requiring physical stamina and a commitment to safety regulations. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to upholding our high standards of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment according to established schedules.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in heavy equipment using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other system problems.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Order and manage parts inventory.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate effectively with other maintenance personnel and supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in repairing and maintaining heavy equipment
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and related components
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience with specific brands of heavy equipment used by the Gombe State Water Board
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques
