Job Description
The Gombe State Water Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a wide range of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and other construction machinery vital to our water infrastructure projects. This role requires a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and various mechanical components. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver, capable of working both independently and as part of a team. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance, ordering parts, and ensuring the equipment is always in optimal working condition. This is a hands-on role requiring physical stamina and a commitment to safety regulations. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to upholding our high standards of operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment according to established schedules.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in heavy equipment using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other system problems.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
- Order and manage parts inventory.
- Comply with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate effectively with other maintenance personnel and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience in repairing and maintaining heavy equipment
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines and related components
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role
- Experience with specific brands of heavy equipment used by the Gombe State Water Board
- Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques
