Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mason/Bricklayer to join our dynamic construction team in Kapsabet. As a Mason/Bricklayer, you will be instrumental in bringing our architectural designs to life, working on a variety of projects that demand precision, craftsmanship, and a strong understanding of building codes and materials. This role requires an individual who is not only proficient in traditional bricklaying techniques but also knowledgeable about modern construction practices and safety standards. You will be responsible for laying bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry materials to construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, and other structures. Key Responsibilities
- Interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine materials required and methods of installation.
- Cutting and trimming bricks, blocks, and other masonry materials to specific dimensions using hand and power tools.
- Mixing mortar and other compounds according to specified ratios and consistency.
- Laying bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry units to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures.
- Measuring and marking out the precise area where masonry work is to be carried out, ensuring accuracy.
- Ensuring the accurate alignment, spacing, and bonding of masonry units for structural integrity and aesthetic finish.
- Checking vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bobs, levels, and squares to maintain structural accuracy.
- Cleaning excess mortar from finished work and maintaining a tidy, organized, and safe work area at all times.
- Operating and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently, ensuring their longevity.
- Adhering strictly to all safety regulations, building codes, and company policies on construction sites.
- Collaborating effectively and respectfully with other construction professionals, including carpenters, plumbers, and electricians.
- Inspecting existing masonry structures to determine the extent of damage or the need for repair.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Mason or Bricklayer in residential, commercial, or civil construction projects.
- Demonstrable expertise in various bricklaying techniques, including stretcher bond, English bond, Flemish bond, etc.
- Proficiency in mixing and applying different types of mortar, concrete, and other binding agents.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed construction drawings.
- Strong knowledge of building materials, tools, and equipment used in masonry, including their proper use and maintenance.
- Excellent physical stamina and strength, with the ability to lift heavy materials and work in various weather conditions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, durable finishes.
- Sound understanding of construction site safety procedures, regulations, and best practices.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative attitude.
- Problem-solving abilities for on-site challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or certification in Masonry, Bricklaying, or a related construction trade from a recognized institution.
- Experience working with different types of masonry materials, including natural stone, decorative brickwork, and pavers.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to various job sites within Kapsabet and Nandi County.
- Familiarity with local building codes, standards, and regulations specific to Kenya.
