Vryheid Deli & Biltong is seeking a dynamic Market Stall Assistant to join our team, primarily supporting our presence at various local markets and events. You will be instrumental in setting up and dismantling our market stall, ensuring our products are beautifully displayed, managing sales transactions, and providing outstanding product knowledge and service. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the efficient setup and attractive display of market stall products, ensuring visual appeal and cleanliness.
- Actively engage with customers, providing detailed product information, recommendations, and answering queries with enthusiasm.
- Handle sales transactions accurately using a point-of-sale system or cash management, including cash, card, and mobile payments.
- Maintain optimal stock levels on the stall, replenish products as needed, and manage inventory effectively throughout the market day.
- Ensure the stall area remains tidy, organised, and appealing to customers at all times.
- Assist with the safe and efficient pack down of the stall, including careful handling and transportation of products and equipment.
- Provide exceptional customer service, fostering a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations related to food handling and retail operations.
- Communicate customer feedback and market trends to management.
- Support marketing efforts by distributing promotional materials or engaging customers in loyalty programs where applicable.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer service orientation with a friendly and approachable demeanour
- Basic numeracy and cash handling experience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift and carry moderate weights (e.g., product boxes, display equipment)
- Reliability and punctuality
- Basic understanding of food hygiene practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail, market stall, or customer-facing role
- Knowledge of local food products, particularly biltong and deli items
- Driver's license and access to reliable transport (advantageous for early starts/late finishes)
- Fluency in isiZulu and English
