Job Description

This is a pivotal opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Manufacturing Production Manager to lead and optimise complex production operations within our state-of-the-art facility in Derby, United Kingdom. You will be instrumental in driving efficiency, maintaining the highest quality standards, and ensuring the timely delivery of intricate engineering components and systems crucial to our global operations. The successful candidate will oversee the entire production lifecycle, from raw material intake through to finished product despatch, meticulously managing teams, resources, and processes to consistently meet and exceed ambitious production targets. This critical leadership position demands a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving, a deep understanding of lean manufacturing principles, and a relentless commitment to continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage diverse production teams, fostering a high-performance, safety-conscious, and collaborative culture.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor robust production plans, ensuring strict adherence to schedules, budgets, and stringent quality standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Optimise manufacturing processes using Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Monitor key production performance indicators, analyze data, and provide comprehensive reports on metrics to senior management for strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure unwavering compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations, embedding best practices throughout the production floor.
  • Strategically manage resource allocation, including personnel, equipment, and raw materials, to maximize operational efficiency and output.
  • Collaborate extensively with engineering, supply chain, and quality assurance departments to proactively resolve production issues and drive product design for manufacturability.
  • Identify, propose, and implement capital expenditure projects to continuously enhance manufacturing capabilities and technological readiness.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide targeted training, and actively support professional development opportunities for all team members.
  • Champion initiatives aimed at reducing operational costs, improving yield, and enhancing overall product quality and customer satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in a Production Management or similar leadership role within a complex, high-precision manufacturing environment (ideally aerospace, automotive, or heavy engineering).
  • Demonstrable strong leadership and effective team management capabilities, with a track record of motivating and developing teams.
  • Expertise and practical application of Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, Kanban).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with an ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in production planning and control systems (e.g., ERP/MRP systems).
  • Deep understanding and practical experience with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with all levels of an organisation.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or a closely related technical field.
  • Master's degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt, APICS CPIM, IOSH/NEBOSH).
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies (e.g., additive manufacturing, robotics, automation, digital twins).
  • Proven project management experience within a manufacturing or engineering context.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices specific to a heavy manufacturing environment.
