Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Maintenance Staff member to join our team, focusing on the upkeep and optimal functioning of our commercial properties in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal. This role is crucial in ensuring that our facilities remain safe, operational, and presentable, directly supporting Transnet’s extensive logistics and transport infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of commercial properties to identify and address maintenance needs proactively.
- Perform general repair and maintenance tasks, including minor electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and plastering.
- Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues such as faulty equipment, leaks, or structural damage.
- Implement preventative maintenance schedules for building systems and equipment (e.g., HVAC, lighting, fire safety systems).
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs or projects, overseeing their work to ensure quality and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts, ensuring availability and proper condition.
- Assist with groundskeeping and general upkeep of the property exterior as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in commercial property maintenance.
- Strong technical skills in at least three of the following areas: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, general building repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Proficiency in using various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant NQF Level 3 or 4 qualification in a trade (e.g., Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry).
- Valid First Aid certificate.
- Experience with building management systems (BMS).
- Knowledge of South African building codes and standards.
- Valid South African driver's license.
