Job Description
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our dynamic team and oversee the operational integrity of our industrial plants in the Dutse, Abuja region. This professional role is critical to ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of our heavy machinery, concrete batching plants, asphalt plants, fabrication workshops, and other crucial industrial assets vital for our large-scale construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing robust maintenance strategies, leading a team of skilled technicians, troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will play a pivotal role in minimizing downtime, optimizing equipment performance, and upholding the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency, directly contributing to the successful execution of our infrastructure development goals. This position demands a proactive problem-solver with a strong background in industrial maintenance, excellent leadership skills, and an unwavering commitment to operational excellence within a challenging and rewarding environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs for industrial plant machinery and equipment, covering mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, providing technical guidance, scheduling workloads, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Conduct thorough root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve reliability.
- Manage spare parts inventory, procurement, and ensure the timely availability of critical components to minimize operational delays.
- Ensure all maintenance activities strictly comply with company safety policies, industry best practices, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, calibration, and routine servicing of new and existing plant equipment.
- Prepare detailed maintenance reports, track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and present findings to management.
- Collaborate effectively with production, operations, and project management teams to schedule maintenance activities and minimize operational disruption.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing equipment reliability, efficiency, longevity, and overall plant productivity.
- Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for planning, scheduling, tracking, and documenting all maintenance tasks and asset history.
- Manage maintenance budgets, control costs effectively, and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in industrial plant maintenance within a heavy industry or construction environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical (industrial controls), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis (RCA), fault diagnosis, and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
- Demonstrable experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Ability to accurately read and interpret complex technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Unwavering commitment to safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification in maintenance management (e.g., CMRP – Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional, CRL – Certified Reliability Leader).
- Experience with specific heavy equipment used in construction-related industrial plants (e.g., asphalt pavers, crushers, concrete batching plants, generators, heavy earthmoving equipment).
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, or other continuous improvement frameworks.
- Prior experience working in a large-scale construction or manufacturing environment in Nigeria.
