Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, weeding, and watering of lawns and landscape beds.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment and facilities for various park district programs and events.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on park district buildings, equipment, and facilities (e.g., painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical).
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light-duty equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform custodial duties, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of restrooms, community centers, and other public areas.
- Assist with snow and ice removal during winter months to ensure safe access to facilities and pathways.
- Inspect and report any facility or equipment malfunctions, damage, or safety hazards to supervisors.
- Empty trash receptacles and manage waste disposal appropriately across district properties.
- Support the skilled trades staff (e.g., electricians, plumbers, carpenters) on larger maintenance projects.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance practices and procedures.
- Proficiency in using common hand tools and basic power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- A valid Illinois Driver's License and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, custodial work, or general maintenance.
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques and plant care.
- Experience operating light-duty maintenance equipment (e.g., mowers, blowers).
- CPR/First Aid certification.
