Job Description

Are you a skilled, highly dependable, and safety-conscious Lorry Driver with a profound passion for efficient and secure transportation? Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Holdings Limited is actively seeking dedicated and experienced Lorry Drivers to become a vital part of our dynamic logistics team based in Kikuyu, Kiambu County. In this absolutely critical role, you will bear the significant responsibility for the safe, timely, and precise transportation of fresh tea leaves from numerous collection centres to our state-of-the-art processing factories, the subsequent movement of processed tea to our secure warehouses, and the delivery of various essential supplies to our operational units spread across the region. This demanding position mandates the highest degree of professionalism, an unyielding adherence to all national and company safety regulations, and a steadfast commitment to upholding our fleet’s impeccable operational standards. You will serve as an essential and reliable link in our vast and complex supply chain, directly contributing to ensuring that Kenya’s renowned tea products reach their destinations effectively and without compromise. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport fresh tea leaves, processed tea, and various other types of cargo (e.g., factory supplies, agricultural inputs) across specified routes and strictly adhere to pre-determined schedules.
  • Conduct exhaustive pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle, meticulously checking essential components such as fuel levels, oil, water, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and steering system. Promptly report any observed defects, malfunctions, or maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and secure loading and unloading of cargo, meticulously verifying quantities and condition against delivery notes and ensuring proper securing techniques are employed to prevent any damage during transit.
  • Adhere strictly to all national traffic laws, internal company safety policies, and relevant environmental regulations, fostering a culture of road safety.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date daily logbooks, comprehensive journey manifests, and all other pertinent documentation, including precise records of mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery details.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with dispatch, factory personnel, and other team members regarding transport schedules, potential delays, unforeseen issues, or any route changes.
  • Perform minor roadside repairs and routine preventative maintenance tasks as deemed necessary, and diligently ensure that the vehicle is kept clean, tidy, and in excellent operational condition at all times.
  • Represent KTDA professionally and courteously to all stakeholders, including farmers, factory staff, and the general public, upholding the company's reputation.
  • Actively assist in maintaining overall vehicle cleanliness and ensure strict adherence to all health and safety standards within the transport operations.

Required Skills

  • Valid Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) driving license (Class G or equivalent) as per Kenyan regulations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable professional driving experience with heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Demonstrated clean driving record with no major traffic offenses.
  • Proficient knowledge of Kenyan road networks, particularly in Kiambu County and surrounding tea-growing regions.
  • Basic vehicle mechanics and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of long driving hours and occasional manual loading/unloading assistance.
  • Ability to read and understand English for documentation and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate in Defensive Driving.
  • Valid First Aid training certificate.
  • Experience operating articulated lorries or specific types of heavy commercial vehicles relevant to agricultural logistics.
  • Prior experience in agricultural supply chain or FMCG distribution.
  • Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route optimization.
