Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Long Haul Truck Driver with specialized experience in overseas freight operations to join our dynamic transport team in Embu, Embu County. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of goods, often containerized, to and from various national and international depots, ports, and customs points. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that goods destined for overseas shipment, or arriving from international origins, are handled with the utmost care and precision, adhering to all local and international transport regulations. This position demands a strong sense of responsibility, excellent driving skills, a meticulous approach to documentation, and the ability to work independently over long distances and extended periods. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., articulated trucks, prime movers with trailers) safely and efficiently for long-haul routes.
- Transport goods, including containerized cargo, to and from ports, customs points, warehouses, and customer locations across Kenya and potentially East Africa.
- Perform thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and cargo to ensure mechanical soundness and load security.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, safety regulations, and international transport standards.
- Maintain accurate records of cargo documentation, delivery manifests, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance issues.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics coordinators, and clients regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and any issues encountered on route.
- Ensure proper securing and handling of cargo to prevent damage during transit, particularly for sensitive overseas freight.
- Manage customs clearance paperwork and procedures efficiently when transporting goods across borders or to/from ports.
- Conduct minor vehicle maintenance checks and report any major defects immediately to the maintenance department.
- Represent Siginon Group professionally at all times while on the road and interacting with customers and authorities.
Required Skills
- Valid Kenyan Driving License Class BCE, CE or equivalent for heavy commercial vehicles.
- Minimum 4 years of proven experience as a long-haul truck driver.
- Demonstrable experience with containerized cargo and port operations.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks and troubleshooting.
- Excellent navigation skills and familiarity with major routes in Kenya and East Africa.
- Physical stamina and ability to sit for long periods and handle occasional physical demands of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cross-border logistics and customs documentation.
- Certification in defensive driving or advanced driver training.
- Knowledge of cargo securing best practices for various types of freight.
- Proficiency in basic English and Swahili for communication and documentation.
