Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., super-links, rigid trucks) for long-distance hauls across South Africa.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, trailers, and cargo to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery records, and all necessary documentation as per industry and company requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and other team members regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, or issues.
- Perform basic maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Manage fuel consumption efficiently and handle delivery paperwork accurately.
- Represent the company professionally and courteously at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Code 14 (EC) driver's license with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) for heavy goods.
- Minimum of 3 years verifiable experience in long-haul heavy vehicle driving.
- Clean driving record with no major infringements.
- Excellent knowledge of South African road networks and traffic regulations.
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics for routine inspections and minor troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet delivery deadlines.
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of long-distance driving.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Dangerous Goods endorsement (DG PrDP) is a strong advantage.
- Experience with specific truck types (e.g., super-links, tankers) relevant to available routes.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route optimization software.
- Proven track record of safe driving and adherence to health and safety protocols.
- Basic first aid certification.
