Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks for long-haul transportation of freight.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Plan routes and meet delivery schedules in a timely and efficient manner.
- Load and unload cargo, ensuring proper securing and handling procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, manifests, bills of lading, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and other team members.
- Adhere to all local and international traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs when necessary.
- Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness, reporting any issues promptly.
- Ensure cargo is protected from theft, damage, or adverse weather conditions.
Required Skills
- Valid heavy vehicle driving license (e.g., UAE Class 8, CE, or equivalent international license)
- Proven experience as a long-haul freight driver
- Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and regulations
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety checks
- Ability to operate vehicles safely in various weather and road conditions
- Physical fitness to handle long driving hours and some manual labor
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor repairs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GPS navigation systems and electronic logging devices (ELDs)
- Knowledge of customs procedures for cross-border freight (GCC countries)
- Proficiency in English and/or Arabic
- Certification in defensive driving or advanced driver training
- Experience with specialized cargo (e.g., refrigerated, hazardous materials – with relevant endorsements)
