Value Logistics is seeking dedicated and highly experienced Long-Distance Truck Drivers to join our dynamic team in Cape Town. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of a diverse range of goods across South Africa, ensuring timely deliveries and upholding the highest standards of road safety and customer service. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy-duty vehicles over extended periods and distances, primarily transporting cargo between Cape Town and various national destinations. This includes conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring all cargo is loaded securely and properly manifested, and meticulously documenting all aspects of the journey, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery logs. Adherence to all national and company-specific traffic laws, safety regulations, and environmental standards is paramount. Drivers are expected to manage their schedules effectively to meet strict delivery deadlines while prioritizing rest periods to ensure alertness and safety on the road. Problem-solving skills are essential for handling unexpected delays or minor vehicle issues en route, alongside excellent communication abilities to liaise with dispatch, clients, and fellow team members. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty vehicles for long-distance transportation of goods across South Africa.
- Perform thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure all cargo is securely loaded, properly distributed, and accounted for according to manifests.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage reports, fuel records, and delivery documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and any issues encountered.
- Manage driving hours and rest periods in compliance with national transport regulations.
- Conduct minor roadside repairs and routine maintenance checks as required.
- Represent Value Logistics professionally and courteously at all times.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or vehicle malfunctions promptly.
Required Skills
- Valid Code 14 (EC) driver's license with PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) – heavy motor vehicle.
- Minimum of 4 years (48 months) verifiable long-distance driving experience.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Proven ability to operate various types of heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Strong understanding of national road regulations and transport safety protocols.
- Excellent navigational skills and familiarity with South African long-distance routes.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced defensive driving certification.
- Experience with specific cargo types (e.g., hazardous materials, refrigerated goods, abnormal loads).
