Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Loan Officer specializing in Agricultural Loans to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the economic development of the Hartswater region and surrounding agricultural communities, working remotely. The successful candidate will be responsible for originating, evaluating, and processing agricultural loan applications, building strong relationships with farmers and agribusinesses, and ensuring that our financial solutions meet their specific needs. You will leverage your expertise in agricultural finance and your understanding of the local farming landscape to assess credit risk, provide sound financial advice, and contribute to the sustainable growth of our agricultural portfolio. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent communication and analytical skills, capable of working independently while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, attract, and onboard new agricultural clients in the Hartswater and surrounding Northern Cape regions.
- Conduct thorough financial analysis and risk assessments for agricultural loan applications, including crop, livestock, and equipment financing.
- Prepare comprehensive loan proposals, ensuring compliance with Absa's credit policies and regulatory requirements.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing and prospective agricultural clients.
- Provide expert financial advice and tailor loan products to meet the unique needs of farmers and agribusinesses.
- Monitor loan portfolios, proactively manage potential risks, and ensure timely repayment.
- Stay informed about agricultural market trends, government policies, and technological advancements impacting the sector.
- Collaborate with internal teams to cross-sell other banking products and services relevant to agricultural clients.
- Ensure all activities adhere to ethical standards, internal policies, and external regulations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural lending or a related financial services role.
- Proven ability to analyze financial statements and assess credit risk within the agricultural sector.
- Strong understanding of agricultural practices, market dynamics, and challenges in the Northern Cape.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain client relationships remotely.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with CRM software.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote work environment.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally within the region for client meetings (when safe and necessary).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Existing network and relationships within the Hartswater agricultural community.
- Familiarity with Absa's lending products and systems.
