Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, and results-oriented Livestock Manager to lead and optimize our extensive poultry operations located in Harare. Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of large-scale poultry farms, including breeding, rearing, and broiler production cycles.
- Develop, implement, and rigorously monitor robust livestock health programs, advanced biosecurity protocols, and comprehensive vaccination schedules in close collaboration with veterinary services.
- Oversee all aspects of feed management, ensuring optimal nutritional intake and efficient feed conversion ratios for maximum growth and health.
- Lead, train, supervise, and mentor farm staff, fostering a culture of safety, productivity, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Monitor and meticulously control environmental conditions within housing facilities to ensure optimal animal comfort, health, and performance.
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of production data, mortality rates, feed consumption, and other critical key performance indicators.
- Conduct regular, thorough inspections of facilities and equipment, proactively coordinating maintenance and necessary repairs.
- Ensure strict adherence to all local and international animal welfare standards, industry regulations, and stringent company policies.
- Prepare comprehensive operational budgets, manage expenditures efficiently, and contribute to strategic planning for livestock production expansion and improvement.
- Implement sustainable farming practices and environmentally responsible waste management protocols.
- Report regularly on farm performance against set targets, identifying areas for improvement and implementing timely corrective actions.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Science, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in large-scale livestock management, with a strong, verifiable focus on poultry operations.
- Proven ability to effectively lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team of agricultural workers.
- In-depth, hands-on knowledge of poultry health, nutrition, breeding genetics, and animal welfare practices.
- Strong understanding and practical application of biosecurity protocols and disease prevention strategies.
- Excellent analytical, complex problem-solving, and decisive decision-making skills under pressure.
- Proficiency in advanced record-keeping and data analysis for comprehensive performance monitoring and reporting.
- Valid class 4 driver's license with a clean driving record.
