Job Description

The Livestock Farmer (Goat) will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a goat farm, ensuring the health, productivity, and welfare of the animals. This includes breeding, feeding, managing herd health, and implementing best practices for goat husbandry. The successful candidate will be a hands-on individual with a deep understanding of goat farming, possessing excellent animal husbandry skills and a commitment to sustainable practices. The role requires meticulous record-keeping, adherence to strict hygiene standards, and the ability to identify and address potential health issues promptly. You will work closely with other members of the agricultural team, contributing to the overall success of the ESADP’s livestock development initiatives. This role involves physical work outdoors in all weather conditions, requiring stamina and resilience. The successful candidate will be passionate about animal welfare and committed to producing high-quality goat products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of a goat farm, including breeding, feeding, and general animal care.
  • Maintaining accurate records of animal health, feeding schedules, and production outputs.
  • Implementing and monitoring preventative health programs to minimize disease and maintain herd health.
  • Ensuring the farm adheres to strict hygiene and biosecurity protocols.
  • Identifying and addressing any animal health issues promptly and effectively.
  • Managing the farm's resources efficiently, including feed, water, and equipment.
  • Participating in training and development programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborating with other members of the agricultural team to achieve overall program objectives.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in goat farming and husbandry.
  • Knowledge of goat breeding techniques and practices.
  • Ability to identify and treat common goat diseases.
  • Strong animal handling and care skills.
  • Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in basic farm management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and resilience to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Animal Husbandry or a related field.
  • Experience with goat breeding programs.
