Eskort Ltd. is actively seeking a highly dedicated and enthusiastic Livestock Assistant to join our dynamic team at our flagship Estcourt facility. This pivotal entry-to-mid-level position is crucial for maintaining the optimal health, welfare, and productivity of our valuable livestock, primarily focusing on pigs. As a Livestock Assistant, you will play an indispensable role in the comprehensive day-to-day care and meticulous management of our animals, ensuring they thrive in a consistently clean, safe, and nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering routines meticulously according to established schedules and specific dietary requirements for different animal groups.
- Vigilantly monitor the health and well-being of all livestock, promptly identifying and reporting any signs of illness, injury, or unusual behaviour to senior supervisory staff.
- Assist with the safe and humane movement of animals between pens, designated sections, or for specific procedures, always ensuring adherence to humane handling techniques.
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation for pens, housing areas, and all associated equipment, strictly adhering to comprehensive biosecurity protocols.
- Provide essential support during breeding and farrowing processes, including dedicated assistance with newborn piglet care and efficient sow management.
- Assist with basic veterinary procedures under direct supervision, such as vaccinations, administering treatments, and accurate record-keeping.
- Participate actively in the routine maintenance of farm infrastructure, including minor repairs to fences, feeders, water systems, and other essential equipment.
- Operate various farm machinery and equipment safely and efficiently when required, strictly following all established safety guidelines and protocols.
- Accurately record and document data related to animal feed consumption, weight, health treatments, reproductive cycles, and other relevant production metrics.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies, stringent safety regulations, and highest animal welfare standards at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven physical stamina and ability to perform demanding tasks in a farm environment.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and a proactive, hands-on approach.
- Basic understanding of animal behaviour and humane handling techniques.
- Ability to observe and accurately report on animal health and welfare.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Basic literacy and numeracy for record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (1+ year) working with livestock, preferably pigs.
- Valid Code B (or higher) driver's license.
- Certificate or diploma in Agriculture, Animal Production, or a related field.
- Knowledge of biosecurity principles and their practical application.
