Job Description

We are seeking an exceptionally qualified, experienced, and dedicated Live-in Nanny/Governess to join a distinguished private household in Maputo, Mozambique. This is a unique opportunity for a professional who is passionate about child development, education, and fostering a loving, stimulating, and structured environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the holistic well-being and intellectual growth of two school-aged children (e.g., ages 6 and 9). This demanding yet rewarding role requires a blend of traditional nanny duties with the educational expertise and pedagogical approach of a governess. You will work closely with the family to ensure the children’s daily needs are met, their academic progress is meticulously supported, and their extracurricular interests are nurtured through engaging activities and thoughtfully planned outings. Beyond daily care, you will be instrumental in cultivating their intellectual curiosity, encouraging good manners, and fostering independence. This position demands a high degree of professionalism, impeccable discretion, exceptional adaptability, and a proactive approach to all aspects of childcare and education. The family travels extensively, both domestically and internationally, so the ability to travel flexibly and without restrictions is essential. The family values cultural exposure, academic excellence, and a balanced lifestyle, seeking a governess who can seamlessly integrate into their household while maintaining professional boundaries and upholding the highest standards of care. You will be expected to create a stimulating learning environment, oversee homework, organize educational games and activities, and ensure the children’s social and emotional development is well-supported. Furthermore, maintaining effective communication with parents regarding the children’s progress and needs is paramount.

  • Manage children’s wardrobes, toys, and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Prepare healthy and nutritious meals and snacks for the children, adhering to any dietary requirements.
  • Promote good manners, social etiquette, and responsible behavior.
  • Travel with the family as required, both domestically and internationally.
  • Maintain open and consistent communication with parents regarding children’s progress, challenges, and milestones.
  • Administer basic first aid and manage minor illnesses, adhering to family protocols and medical advice.
  • Foster a positive and nurturing atmosphere that encourages independence and self-confidence.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Impeccable discretion, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Flexibility to travel extensively with the family.
  • Right to work in Mozambique (or willingness to obtain necessary visas/permits).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Early Childhood Development, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Portuguese, French).
  • Experience with international travel and managing children's routines in diverse environments.
  • Formal Governess training or equivalent professional certification.
