Job Description
Career.supersecrets is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Literacy Program Assistant to join our team in Orlu, Imo. This is a full-time, immediate hire position pivotal to the success of our community-focused literacy initiatives. The Literacy Program Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of various literacy programs designed for children, youth, and adults in the Orlu area. This position requires a proactive individual with a passion for education, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people. You will be instrumental in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment, helping participants develop foundational reading, writing, and comprehension skills. Your work will directly contribute to empowering individuals and strengthening our community’s educational landscape, fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination and delivery of literacy workshops, reading clubs, and tutoring sessions.
- Prepare and organize learning materials, classroom resources, and participant kits for program activities.
- Support program facilitators and instructors during sessions, ensuring a smooth and productive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and engagement.
- Conduct outreach activities within local communities to promote literacy programs and encourage participation.
- Provide administrative support, including data entry, report generation, and scheduling.
- Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of program effectiveness, collecting feedback from participants and facilitators.
- Liaise with community leaders, parents, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships.
- Help identify and recruit volunteers for various program activities.
- Ensure the learning environment is safe, clean, and conducive to learning for all participants.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A genuine passion for education and community development.
- Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (paid or voluntary) in an educational, non-profit, or community-based setting.
- Fluency in Igbo language, which is beneficial for engaging with local participants.
- Knowledge of various teaching methodologies for literacy development.
- A diploma or degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
