Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lift Operator to join our construction team on a significant development project in Greenwich, London. As a Lift Operator, you will be crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of personnel, materials, and equipment across multiple levels of our active construction site. This role demands a high level of responsibility, an unwavering commitment to safety protocols, and excellent operational skills. You will be operating various types of construction site lifts, including material hoists and passenger/goods hoists, ensuring all movements are conducted in compliance with health and safety regulations, site rules, and manufacturer guidelines. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate construction site lifts (e.g., passenger hoists, goods hoists, material lifts) in accordance with industry best practices and site-specific procedures.
  • Conduct pre-start checks, daily inspections, and routine maintenance of lift equipment, reporting any faults or issues immediately to site management.
  • Control the loading and unloading of materials, equipment, and personnel, ensuring weight limits and balance are strictly adhered to.
  • Communicate effectively with ground crews, banksmen, and site personnel using two-way radio systems and hand signals.
  • Adhere strictly to all site health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Maintain accurate logs of lift usage, movements, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with general site duties as required, contributing to a clean and safe working environment.
  • Respond to and manage emergency situations involving the lift or its users effectively and calmly.
  • Ensure the security of the lift and its components when not in use.

Required Skills

  • Valid CPCS A20 (Hoist) or NPORS equivalent certification.
  • Proven experience as a Lift Operator on a busy construction site.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and site safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and via radio.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CSCS card (if not covered by CPCS).
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Additional plant operation tickets (e.g., Telehandler, Forklift).
  • Experience operating different types and brands of construction lifts.
  • Previous experience on large-scale urban development projects.
