Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service at the circulation desk, assisting patrons with inquiries, account management, and material check-out/in.
  • Accurately sort, shelve, and maintain the order of library materials according to classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
  • Assist patrons in locating resources, both physical and digital, and navigating library systems and databases.
  • Support library programs and events, including setup, registration, and general assistance.
  • Process new acquisitions and repairs, ensuring materials are ready for public use.
  • Perform shelf-reading to ensure correct placement of materials and maintain collection neatness.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures of the library, as required.
  • Handle basic administrative tasks and maintain records accurately.
  • Contribute to maintaining a welcoming, clean, and organized library environment.

Required Skills

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort with library management systems (or willingness to learn quickly).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift and move library materials, and to stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a library, archive, or customer service environment.
  • Familiarity with Dewey Decimal Classification System.
  • Experience with integrated library systems (ILS) such as Alma, Koha, or similar.
  • An interest in literature, research, and information science.
  • Basic understanding of digital resources and online databases.
