Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal advice and opinions on matters relating to the institution's operations, policies, and regulatory compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, and legislative instruments.
- Represent the institution in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other dispute resolution forums, both as plaintiff and defendant.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on relevant statutes, case law, and regulations to support institutional objectives.
- Assist in the development and implementation of institutional policies and procedures to ensure adherence to legal requirements.
- Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory frameworks relevant to the government sector and advise the institution on potential impacts.
- Liaise with external legal counsel, government agencies, and other stakeholders as necessary.
- Prepare periodic legal reports, briefs, and presentations for management and other relevant parties.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Handle official correspondence and manage legal documentation and records effectively.
Required Skills
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university.
- Called to the Nigerian Bar with a valid practicing certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years post-call experience in legal practice, preferably within a government agency, parastatal, or a law firm specializing in public law.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Nigerian public law, administrative law, constitutional law, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
- Strong advocacy and negotiation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High level of integrity, ethical conduct, and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Laws (LL.M) degree or other relevant postgraduate qualifications.
