Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team in New Haven, Enugu. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Nigerian corporate law, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of success in providing legal counsel to a corporate environment. This role will involve a wide range of responsibilities, requiring a strategic thinker capable of managing multiple complex legal issues simultaneously. You will work closely with senior management and other departments, providing insightful legal advice and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Providing comprehensive legal counsel and advice to various departments within the organization.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Conducting legal research and analysis on various legal issues, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property.
- Managing and overseeing litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution processes.
- Advising on and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Staying abreast of current legal developments and trends affecting the organization's business operations.
- Representing the company in legal proceedings and negotiations.
- Developing and implementing legal policies and procedures.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to resolve legal matters efficiently and effectively.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a reputable law school.
- 5+ years of experience providing legal counsel in a corporate environment.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian corporate law, including company law, contract law, and intellectual property law.
- Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with legal databases and research tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
- Experience in a multinational corporate environment.
- Experience with mergers and acquisitions, or other significant corporate transactions.
- Knowledge of international business law.
- Master of Laws (LLM) degree.
- Experience with compliance matters, including anti-corruption and data privacy.
- Fluency in English and Igbo languages
