Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Land Surveyor to join our vibrant team at Motheo Construction Group. This critical role involves a blend of office-based planning, data analysis, and hands-on field work, ensuring the precise execution of our diverse construction projects in Vredefort and the surrounding Free State region. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting accurate land surveys, preparing detailed reports, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure all aspects of a project adhere to design specifications and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive land surveys for various construction projects, including topographic, boundary, and as-built surveys.
- Operate and maintain a range of surveying equipment, including Total Stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and laser scanners.
- Process and analyze survey data using specialized software to generate accurate maps, charts, and reports.
- Establish and verify control points, elevations, and alignments to guide construction activities.
- Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and site foremen to interpret survey data and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare detailed survey plans, drawings, and legal descriptions for project documentation.
- Ensure all surveying activities comply with industry standards, legal requirements, and health and safety regulations.
- Perform quality control checks on survey data and final deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior surveying staff, if applicable.
- Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals by providing accurate survey-related cost estimates and schedules.
Required Skills
- Proven proficiency in land surveying principles and practices
- Expertise in operating Total Stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and digital levels
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar surveying software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Valid South African driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field
- Professional registration with the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) or PLATO
- Experience with drone surveying and photogrammetry techniques
- Knowledge of ArcGIS or other GIS software
- Previous experience on large-scale civil engineering or commercial building projects
