Key Responsibilities
- Receive, label, and process patient samples (e.g., blood, urine, swabs) accurately and efficiently according to standard operating procedures.
- Prepare samples for various laboratory tests, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and distribution to appropriate testing sections.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables, notifying senior staff of stock levels and potential shortages.
- Clean, sterilize, and disinfect laboratory equipment, glassware, and work areas to ensure a sterile and safe environment.
- Assist with basic equipment maintenance and calibration tasks under the direct supervision of qualified personnel.
- Safely dispose of biohazardous waste in strict accordance with established health and safety regulations.
- Accurately record data, maintain detailed logs of samples received, processed, and any procedures performed.
- Adhere strictly to all national health, safety, and quality assurance guidelines and policies.
- Provide support to qualified laboratory technologists and scientists as required, ensuring smooth workflow.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information and sensitive laboratory data.
- Report any anomalies, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to senior laboratory staff promptly and clearly.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 12/Matric Certificate).
- Basic understanding of scientific principles and concepts.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in using MS Office suite (Word, Excel).
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a valuable team member.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift moderate weights (up to 10 kg).
