Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring they are clean, sterilized, and in proper working order.
- Assist in the preparation of reagents, solutions, and media according to established protocols and precise measurements.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses under the supervision of senior researchers, accurately recording observations and results.
- Handle, store, and dispose of chemical and biological samples in accordance with safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments, data, and inventory using laboratory notebooks and digital systems.
- Conduct basic data entry and assist with preliminary analysis of experimental results.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and assist with inventory management, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in general laboratory upkeep, including cleaning workstations and shared equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, contributing to a positive and productive research environment.
- Assist with the calibration and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
- Learn and apply new laboratory techniques and methodologies as required by research projects.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- Basic understanding of laboratory safety procedures and best practices.
- Proficiency in operating standard laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, pH meters, pipettes).
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in performing tasks and recording data.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to follow complex instructions precisely and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior practical experience in a university or industrial laboratory setting (e.g., through internships, coursework, or part-time roles).
- Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Experience with specific analytical techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography, or PCR.
- Knowledge of data management software or electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN).
