Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Junior Freelance Content Writer with a strong focus on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to join our dynamic communication efforts. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging talent to contribute significantly to how Bugesera District communicates its initiatives, achievements, and attractions to residents, partners, and the wider world. As a freelance writer, you will work remotely, collaborating closely with our communication team to develop engaging, informative, and SEO-optimized content for our digital platforms. Your primary responsibility will be to craft compelling articles, news updates, website copy, and social media content that not only captivates our audience but also ranks well on search engines, increasing our online visibility.

This role requires an individual with a keen understanding of SEO best practices, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and persuasive content. You will be instrumental in helping us tell the story of Bugesera District, highlighting local developments, tourism potential, community programs, and administrative announcements. We are looking for someone who is passionate about local development, eager to learn, and capable of working independently while adhering to deadlines. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough keyword research to identify relevant topics and search terms for Bugesera District's online presence.
  • Write, edit, and proofread high-quality, original content for the district's website, news portal, and social media channels.
  • Optimize content for search engines (SEO) including meta descriptions, titles, headings, and internal/external linking.
  • Collaborate with the communication team to understand content requirements and align with district's strategic messaging.
  • Ensure all content adheres to brand guidelines, factual accuracy, and grammatical correctness.
  • Contribute to content calendars and meet deadlines for assigned writing tasks.
  • Monitor content performance and suggest improvements based on SEO analytics (where applicable and accessible).
  • Stay updated with the latest SEO trends and content marketing best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in content writing or copywriting, with a strong portfolio showcasing diverse writing styles.
  • Solid understanding of SEO principles and experience with keyword research tools (e.g., Google Keyword Planner).
  • Exceptional command of the English language, with impeccable grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to research complex topics and translate them into engaging and easy-to-understand content.
  • Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple writing projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a government, non-profit, or public relations environment.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic and cultural landscape of Rwanda, particularly Bugesera District.
  • Knowledge of Kinyarwanda is an advantage but not mandatory.
  • Experience with analytics tools like Google Analytics.
