Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated IT Disaster Recovery Specialist to join our robust Technology team in Maputo. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the resilience and continuity of Vodacom Mozambique’s vital IT infrastructure and services. The IT Disaster Recovery Specialist will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of our comprehensive Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) strategies. This encompasses everything from conducting thorough risk assessments and business impact analyses to orchestrating DR drills, managing incident response procedures, and ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance. You will work closely with various IT departments, operations teams, and external vendors to identify potential vulnerabilities, develop mitigation strategies, and establish robust recovery solutions that minimize downtime and data loss in the event of unforeseen disruptions. Your expertise will safeguard our operations, protect our customer data, and uphold our commitment to reliable service delivery, which is paramount in the telecommunications sector. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive IT Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) strategies and plans.
  • Conduct regular Business Impact Analyses (BIA) and Risk Assessments to identify critical systems, potential threats, and vulnerabilities.
  • Design, configure, and test DR solutions and technologies, including data replication, backup, and recovery systems across various platforms (on-premise, cloud).
  • Coordinate and facilitate periodic DR drills, tests, and simulations, ensuring documentation of results, identification of gaps, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Manage and maintain DR documentation, including recovery plans, procedures, inventories, and contact lists.
  • Collaborate with IT infrastructure, applications, network, and security teams to integrate DR requirements into new and existing systems.
  • Participate in incident response planning and execution, providing expertise in recovery procedures during actual outages or disasters.
  • Ensure all DR activities comply with internal policies, industry best practices, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest DR technologies, methodologies, and trends to recommend continuous improvements to our DR posture.
  • Provide training and awareness programs to staff on DR/BCP protocols and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in IT Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components including servers, storage, networking, databases, and cloud platforms.
  • Experience with DR tools and technologies (e.g., VMware Site Recovery Manager, Veeam, Zerto, Azure Site Recovery).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of incident management and crisis communication processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English and Portuguese.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CBCP, CRISC, CompTIA Security+, ITIL, PMP).
  • Experience working in the telecommunications industry.
  • Knowledge of local and international regulatory requirements related to data protection and business continuity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
