Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop efficient and sustainable irrigation systems for various applications, including agricultural, landscape, and municipal projects.
- Conduct detailed hydraulic analyses, water balance calculations, and feasibility studies.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents using CAD software.
- Manage project lifecycles from conceptual design through to construction supervision and commissioning.
- Perform site investigations, assessments, and surveys to gather data for design inputs.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project alignment and compliance.
- Monitor project progress, quality control, and budget adherence.
- Develop innovative solutions to complex irrigation challenges, considering environmental and economic factors.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project staff.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in irrigation system design and project management.
- Proficiency in hydraulic modelling software and CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Strong understanding of irrigation principles, technologies, and best practices.
- Knowledge of South African water legislation, standards, and agricultural practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) or eligibility for registration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Water Resources, Irrigation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience with GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar.
- Experience in pump station design and water reticulation networks.
- Prior consulting experience on large-scale infrastructure projects.
