Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily operation, monitoring, and adjustment of irrigation systems (drip, micro, flood, pivot) across various crop types.
- Conduct routine inspections of irrigation lines, pumps, filters, valves, and emitters to identify blockages, leaks, or malfunctions.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on irrigation components to ensure optimal system performance.
- Help with the installation and relocation of new irrigation equipment as per farm requirements and irrigation schedules.
- Monitor soil moisture levels and plant water stress, reporting findings to the irrigation manager for scheduling adjustments.
- Accurately record water usage data, maintenance activities, and system performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and procedures related to irrigation equipment and farm operations.
- Assist with fertigation processes, ensuring precise application of nutrients through the irrigation system.
- Operate farm vehicles and equipment, such as tractors or utility vehicles, for irrigation-related tasks (if licensed and trained).
- Collaborate effectively with farm workers and other team members to achieve overall operational goals.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools for repairs and maintenance.
- Strong attention to detail and observation skills to identify system issues.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Valid driver's license (Code 08/B) is essential.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills for record-keeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6-12 months) in an agricultural or farming environment, particularly with irrigation systems.
