Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly motivated, analytically astute, and experienced Investment Officer to join our dynamic and impactful team based in Kigali. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the full lifecycle of investment projects: from rigorous identification and meticulous appraisal to effective monitoring and strategic portfolio management across various sectors that are vital to Rwanda’s national development priorities. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional with a strong background in financial analysis, robust project management capabilities, and a genuine passion for contributing to economic development in a meaningful way. The Investment Officer will be directly responsible for conducting thorough and comprehensive due diligence, developing sophisticated financial models, performing in-depth market research, and ultimately presenting compelling investment recommendations to senior management and our discerning investment committees. Beyond the initial investment, you will proactively manage a diverse portfolio of investments, meticulously ensuring their performance consistently aligns with BRD’s strategic objectives and stringent risk parameters. The role demands superior analytical capabilities, exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, and a proactive, solution-oriented approach to complex challenges. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive financial, economic, and technical analysis of potential investment projects across various sectors.
  • Develop detailed financial models, projections, and valuation analyses to assess project viability and returns.
  • Prepare concise and insightful investment proposals, appraisal reports, and credit memoranda for internal committees.
  • Perform thorough due diligence, including market research, risk assessment, and environmental and social impact analysis.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of investment agreements with clients and partners.
  • Monitor the performance of assigned investment portfolios, ensuring compliance with terms, identifying potential risks, and proposing corrective actions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, project sponsors, co-financiers, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and development of new financial products and services.
  • Provide technical assistance and advisory services to clients to enhance project implementation and financial performance.
  • Prepare regular reports on portfolio performance, market trends, and sector-specific developments for management.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years (48 months) of proven experience in investment banking, private equity, development finance, or a similar role.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills, with proficiency in advanced Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in project appraisal, due diligence, and portfolio management.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, investment instruments, and risk management principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or an MBA.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA).
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and/or French is a significant advantage.
  • Experience working with development finance institutions or in emerging markets, particularly in East Africa.
  • Knowledge of key sectors in Rwanda’s economy (e.g., agriculture, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing).
