Job Description
Are you a highly skilled and dedicated Industrial Mechanic with a passion for precision and problem-solving? Mozal SA is seeking an experienced Industrial Mechanic to join our dynamic maintenance team in Matola, Maputo Province. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of our advanced aluminium smelting equipment and associated infrastructure. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining optimal production levels, minimizing downtime, and upholding our rigorous safety standards. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to preventative maintenance, and the ability to rapidly diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues across a wide range of industrial machinery, including conveyors, pumps, valves, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and rotating equipment. You will work within a highly regulated environment, adhering to strict safety protocols and technical specifications. Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on a variety of industrial machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and extend asset lifespan.
- Conduct rapid and effective diagnosis and repair of mechanical breakdowns, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and rotating equipment, minimizing production downtime.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals to guide maintenance and repair activities.
- Execute precision alignment, fitting, and adjustment of mechanical components.
- Inspect, lubricate, and clean machinery components, maintaining detailed records of all maintenance work performed.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, hot work permits).
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and other maintenance teams to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
- Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and contribute to developing long-term solutions.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of new or upgraded machinery.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for.
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance to less experienced technicians as required.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in industrial mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex machinery.
- Proficiency with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Competence in precision measuring tools, welding, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and manuals.
- Excellent understanding and adherence to industrial safety protocols and procedures.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

- Computer literacy for maintenance management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational or technical diploma/certificate in Industrial Mechanics, Millwright, or a related field.
- Prior experience in heavy industrial environments (e.g., mining, metals, oil & gas, manufacturing).
- Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques (e.g., vibration analysis).
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English.
