Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, process, and manage all import and export documentation, including customs declarations, commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and bills of lading.
- Ensure strict compliance with all national and international customs regulations, trade agreements, and company policies, mitigating risks of delays or penalties.
- Classify goods using appropriate HS (Harmonized System) codes and ensure correct tariff application to facilitate smooth customs clearance.
- Liaise effectively with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of goods.
- Track and monitor shipments, providing regular updates to relevant parties and proactively resolving any issues that may arise during transit.
- Maintain accurate records of all import/export activities, duties, taxes, and permits for audit purposes and efficient reporting.
- Process and verify invoices from freight forwarders and customs brokers against service agreements and allocated budgets.
- Stay updated on changes in international trade legislation, customs procedures, and industry best practices to ensure continuous compliance.
- Assist in the resolution of discrepancies, damages, and claims related to shipments, working closely with relevant departments.
- Support the continuous improvement of import/export processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen compliance.
- Conduct regular audits of import/export documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an import/export coordination or similar role within a logistics or supply chain environment.
- Solid understanding of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and Incoterms.
- Proficiency in using logistics software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for data analysis).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently under pressure.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving logistical issues.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team.
- A strong commitment to accuracy and compliance in all aspects of trade operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
- Experience with specific customs declaration software (e.g., Sequoia, CDS).
- Knowledge of specific trade compliance areas relevant to the UK, such as post-Brexit implications for EU trade.
- Familiarity with bonded warehousing operations and free trade zones.
- Additional language skills, particularly in languages relevant to key trading partners.
- Certification in customs compliance or international trade (e.g., BIFA, CILT).
