Job Description

Are you a seasoned HR professional with a passion for cultivating thriving workplace environments and driving organizational success? MTN Nigeria is seeking a highly skilled and results-oriented HR Manager to join our dynamic team in Abuja. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in overseeing all aspects of human resources management, ensuring alignment with our strategic business objectives and fostering a culture of high performance, engagement, and continuous improvement.

As the HR Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and initiatives that attract, retain, and develop our most valuable asset – our people. You will provide expert guidance and support to management and employees on various HR matters, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, learning and development, and HR compliance. This role requires a professional who can blend strategic foresight with hands-on execution, acting as a trusted advisor, a change agent, and an employee champion. You will play a critical role in nurturing a positive work environment, promoting diversity and inclusion, and ensuring MTN remains an employer of choice in Nigeria’s competitive landscape. Your ability to navigate complex HR challenges, drive innovation in HR practices, and contribute to overall business growth will be key to your success, ultimately supporting MTN Nigeria’s vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Manage the end-to-end talent acquisition process, from sourcing and interviewing to onboarding, ensuring the attraction of top-tier talent.
  • Oversee performance management systems, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development plans to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Administer compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness, fairness, and compliance with market standards through regular benchmarking.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to management and employees on employee relations issues, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local labor laws and regulations, as well as internal company policies and ethical standards.
  • Identify training needs and develop impactful learning and development programs to enhance employee skills, career growth, and leadership capabilities.
  • Champion a positive organizational culture, promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and foster high employee engagement through various initiatives.
  • Utilize HR metrics and analytics to inform strategic decision-making and demonstrate HR's tangible impact on business outcomes.
  • Manage essential HR administrative tasks, including HRIS management, accurate record-keeping, and timely reporting to stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as an HR Manager or in a similar senior HR leadership role (minimum 5 years).
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian labor laws, employment regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and coaching abilities.
  • Proficiency in HR information systems (HRIS) and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage HR strategies and policies effectively.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making capabilities.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria – CIPM, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, HRCI-PHR/SPHR).
  • Experience within the telecommunications industry or a large, multinational corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with change management, organizational development, and talent management initiatives.
  • A track record of driving HR innovation and digital transformation within an HR function.
