Job Description

Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção, S.A. is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team in Maputo, Mozambique. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse range of heavy machinery critical to our large-scale construction and infrastructure projects. This includes, but is not limited to, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, cranes, heavy-duty trucks, and other specialized construction equipment. Your expertise will ensure the operational efficiency, reliability, and safety of our fleet, directly impacting project timelines and success.

This role requires a hands-on professional with a strong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. You will be expected to perform both preventative maintenance and complex repairs in challenging field environments. The ideal candidate possesses a keen eye for detail, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to upholding the highest safety standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on heavy construction equipment (e.g., engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems).
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
  • Conduct major and minor repairs, overhauls, and component replacements in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions on-site and in the workshop.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are performed in compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair work, and parts used.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to prioritize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
  • Assist in training junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes.
  • Familiarity with various heavy equipment brands (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, Liebherr).
  • Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and specialized tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Commitment to safety practices and procedures.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks in challenging environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or technical certification in Heavy Equipment Mechanics.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided diagnostic software.
  • Valid driver's license with heavy vehicle endorsement.
  • Fluency in Portuguese (verbal and written) is an advantage.
