Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty haulage vehicles safely and efficiently in compliance with all traffic laws and company policies.
- Transport various types of goods and materials, including but not limited to construction supplies, industrial equipment, and general cargo, to designated locations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, including checking tires, brakes, lights, fluid levels, and other essential components.
- Report any vehicle defects, accidents, or traffic violations promptly to management.
- Ensure proper loading and unloading of cargo, securing loads according to safety regulations to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery records, and all required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and other team members.
- Adhere to strict delivery schedules while prioritizing safety and road conditions.
- Represent the company professionally to clients and the public.
- Monitor vehicle performance and fuel consumption.
- Keep the vehicle clean and tidy.
Required Skills
- Valid Class G (or equivalent heavy-duty vehicle) driver's license in Nigeria.
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) operating heavy-duty haulage trucks (e.g., trailers, flatbeds, tankers).
- Excellent knowledge of Nigerian road networks, particularly within Bayelsa and surrounding states.
- Strong understanding and adherence to road safety regulations and hazard perception.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks and troubleshooting.
- Good physical condition and stamina to handle long driving hours and occasional manual tasks.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialized cargo or hazardous materials transportation.
- Additional certifications in defensive driving or advanced vehicle operation.
- Mechanical aptitude for minor on-road repairs.
- Familiarity with GPS and navigation software.
