Job Description

The Healthcare Policy Advisor will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing healthcare policies within Plateau State. This position requires a highly analytical and strategic individual with a deep understanding of the Nigerian healthcare system, particularly at the state level. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, community leaders, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Responsibilities include conducting policy research and analysis, developing policy recommendations, drafting policy documents, participating in stakeholder consultations, and monitoring and evaluating policy implementation. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills, as well as a proven track record of success in healthcare policy development or a related field. This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on the healthcare landscape of Plateau State. The role will involve significant interaction with diverse communities and require the ability to navigate complex political and social dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-depth research and analysis on healthcare policies and trends
  • Developing evidence-based policy recommendations to improve healthcare access, quality, and affordability
  • Drafting clear, concise, and persuasive policy documents, including reports, briefs, and presentations
  • Participating in stakeholder consultations and negotiations to build consensus and support for policy initiatives
  • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of healthcare policies, identifying areas for improvement, and making recommendations for adjustments
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including government agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations, and NGOs
  • Staying abreast of current healthcare policy developments and best practices
  • Representing the agency at relevant meetings and conferences.

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in policy research and analysis
  • Experience in drafting policy documents
  • Knowledge of the Nigerian healthcare system
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Health Policy, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare policy development or a related field
  • Experience working with government agencies or NGOs
  • Knowledge of health financing mechanisms
  • Experience with health systems strengthening initiatives
