Job Description
Stefanutti Stocks is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to remotely manage and oversee site-specific health and safety compliance for our projects located in and around Cassel, Northern Cape. While this role is remote, it requires a robust understanding of on-site H&S dynamics and the ability to effectively implement and monitor safety protocols through virtual means and occasional critical site visits. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive health and safety programs that align with company policies, national legislation, and best industry practices. You will be responsible for ensuring our operational sites maintain a safe working environment, conducting virtual inspections, reviewing safety documentation, providing remote training, and actively promoting a strong safety culture across multiple project locations. This is a pivotal role for an individual who is passionate about safety, technologically proficient, and capable of working autonomously to safeguard our most valuable assets – our people.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain remote-accessible Health and Safety Management Systems (HSMS) tailored for specific site operations in the Northern Cape.
- Conduct virtual site inspections and audits, utilizing technology to assess compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Provide remote guidance and support to on-site teams regarding safe work procedures, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
- Investigate incidents and accidents remotely, ensuring thorough reporting, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive H&S reports, statistics, and performance metrics to management.
- Coordinate and deliver remote safety training sessions and inductions for site personnel.
- Stay updated with relevant health and safety legislation (OHS Act 85 of 1993 and amendments) and industry best practices.
- Ensure all site-specific H&S documentation, permits, and registers are current and compliant.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through continuous communication and engagement with all levels of site staff.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in the construction or mining industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and COID Act.
- Proficiency in using remote communication and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom, project management software).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively in a remote setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- SAMTRAC or NEBOSH qualification.
- First Aid and Fire Fighting Certificates.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness for occasional travel to site if required.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
