Are you a seasoned Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating secure and compliant industrial environments? Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team within a prominent industrial estate in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja. This pivotal role requires an individual who can not only enforce regulations but also champion a proactive safety culture across multiple operational units.

As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be the cornerstone of workplace well-being, instrumental in safeguarding employees, contractors, and visitors, while protecting valuable assets and ensuring operational continuity. Your daily impact will involve overseeing the implementation of comprehensive health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management systems, conducting rigorous risk assessments, and developing effective mitigation strategies. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
  • Advise management on all HSE matters, providing expert recommendations for improving safety performance and reducing occupational risks.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
  • Prepare and present regular HSE performance reports to senior management.
  • Coordinate with external regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary documentation is readily available.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across the industrial estate through awareness campaigns, safety meetings, and positive reinforcement.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Nigerian HSE legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective training sessions and audits.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Competency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Membership in a recognized professional safety organization (e.g., ISPON).
  • Experience with HSE management systems implementation and certification processes.
