Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
- Advise management on all HSE matters, providing expert recommendations for improving safety performance and reducing occupational risks.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Prepare and present regular HSE performance reports to senior management.
- Coordinate with external regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary documentation is readily available.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the industrial estate through awareness campaigns, safety meetings, and positive reinforcement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Nigerian HSE legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct effective training sessions and audits.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
- Competency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety organization (e.g., ISPON).
- Experience with HSE management systems implementation and certification processes.
