Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities within the industrial estate and develop effective control measures.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, near-misses, and occupational illnesses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and timely reporting.
- Design and deliver engaging HSE training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local HSE legislation and regulations, including OSHA and relevant Nigerian standards.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, and safety-related documentation.
- Advise management on HSE-related issues, including new regulations, best practices, and technological advancements in safety.
- Lead emergency response planning, drills, and coordination, ensuring preparedness for various scenarios.
- Collaborate with departmental heads to integrate safety measures into daily operations and project planning.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement in safety performance through proactive engagement and feedback mechanisms.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct effective safety training and awareness programs.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
