Career.supersecrets is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team within a prominent industrial estate in Garki, Abuja. This is a critical professional role responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations and international best practices. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all H&S-related matters, driving a proactive safety culture and minimizing workplace risks. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and systems tailored for an industrial estate environment.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across all facilities to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver safety training programs for employees on topics such as emergency preparedness, fire safety, first aid, hazardous materials handling, and machinery operation.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant local and national occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA equivalent).
- Prepare and maintain detailed H&S records, reports, and documentation for internal review and regulatory compliance.
- Advise management on health and safety best practices, emerging risks, and necessary improvements to safety infrastructure and processes.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, emergency services, and other stakeholders on H&S matters.
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety committees, and employee engagement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Strong understanding of industrial safety protocols, including machinery safety, confined spaces, and working at heights.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- Membership in a relevant professional safety body (e.g., IOSH, ISPON).
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid and Fire Safety certification.
