Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed industrial clients located within the bustling Kwali Industrial Estate in Abuja. This professional role demands a proactive individual committed to upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and policies designed to protect employees, visitors, and company assets. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of local and international H&S regulations, coupled with practical experience in industrial settings. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, documenting findings, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as emergency procedures, hazard communication, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices within the industrial operations.
- Prepare and present regular H&S performance reports to management, highlighting key metrics, incidents, and improvement initiatives.
- Advise management on health and safety best practices, new regulations, and necessary investments to enhance workplace safety.
- Manage and maintain safety equipment, ensuring availability, proper functioning, and calibration.
- Coordinate with regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary permits and licenses related to H&S are current.
- Champion a positive safety culture throughout the organization, encouraging active participation from all levels of staff.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Deep knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., Factories Act) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, accident investigations, and safety audits.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, or equivalent.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria – ISPON).
- Experience with environmental management systems (EMS).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
