Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Advise management on safety-related matters, including risk assessments, emergency response plans, and environmental health.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies and ensure all permits and licenses related to health and safety are current and valid.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety meetings, and continuous communication.
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
- Prepare detailed reports on health and safety performance for management review.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA standards).
- Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification skills.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing safety management systems.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and analysis.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
