Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage the company's Health & Safety Management System in line with local regulations and international best practices (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH).
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments and hazard identification across all industrial estate operations, including machinery, processes, and chemical handling.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions effectively.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for all levels of staff, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and company policies, providing expert guidance to management.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain detailed H&S records, reports, and documentation, including incident logs, inspection reports, and training records.
- Manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures, and conduct regular drills.
- Advise on the selection and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure its availability and maintenance.
- Collaborate with departmental heads to integrate safety into all operational aspects and foster a proactive safety culture.
- Stay informed about new health and safety legislation, industry standards, and best practices, recommending updates to company policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian H&S legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
