The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive safety management systems that comply with national regulations, international best practices, and organizational policies.
As the Health & Safety Officer for this industrial estate, you will be at the forefront of identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks inherent to various industrial activities, including manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, and maintenance. Your daily responsibilities will span conducting thorough risk assessments, carrying out regular site inspections to ensure compliance, and leading incident investigations to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. You will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging safety training programs to personnel at all levels, fostering a culture where safety is a shared responsibility and a top priority.
This role requires a professional capable of managing a wide array of safety challenges, from hazardous material handling and machinery safety to fire prevention and emergency response planning. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS).
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with H&S regulations and policies.
- Perform detailed risk assessments and job safety analyses (JSAs) for various industrial activities.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending effective corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver engaging H&S training programs for all levels of personnel within the estate.
- Advise management and tenant companies on H&S best practices and compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of H&S activities, incidents, and training.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
- Develop and implement robust emergency response plans and conduct regular drills.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and report on key H&S performance metrics to stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively with regulatory bodies and external safety auditors during inspections.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an H&S Officer, preferably within an industrial, manufacturing, or estate management environment.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian H&S regulations and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Proficiency in conducting thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
