Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our team, working within a dynamic industrial estate environment in Nyanya, Abuja. This professional role is critical in fostering a robust safety culture, ensuring compliance with all national and international health and safety regulations, and mitigating risks across various industrial operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs designed to protect our workforce, contractors, and visitors. You will be expected to conduct regular site inspections, identify potential hazards, and propose effective control measures. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with Nigerian regulatory requirements and international best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify potential dangers and implement appropriate control measures.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees and contractors, covering topics such as emergency procedures, safe work practices, and hazard communication.
- Perform routine site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with H&S standards, statutory requirements, and company policies, documenting findings and tracking resolutions.
- Manage and maintain accurate H&S records, including incident reports, training logs, inspection reports, and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary documentation is available and up-to-date.
- Oversee the provision and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring proper usage and compliance.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety meetings, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and drills, including fire safety, medical emergencies, and evacuation procedures.
- Advise management on health and safety performance, regulatory changes, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, HSE Level 3).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response procedures.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a professional safety organization (e.g., IOSH, ISPON).
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles.
