Job Description
Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our dynamic team within a bustling industrial estate in Asokoro, Abuja. This professional role is critical in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment across various industrial operations, upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures, conducting regular site inspections, and fostering a robust safety culture among all personnel. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in accordance with national and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001) specific to an industrial estate environment.
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across all operational units within the industrial estate, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs and workshops for all levels of staff, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant local and federal Health & Safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices in Nigeria.
- Manage and maintain accurate H&S records, documentation, and reporting systems, including incident logs, inspection reports, training records, and compliance documentation.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
- Collaborate with management, department heads, and external bodies (e.g., regulatory agencies) to foster a strong safety culture and continuously improve safety performance.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, coordinating with relevant teams and external services to mitigate risks and ensure rapid resolution.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in Health & Safety management within an industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industry setting.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian H&S legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification capabilities.
- Proficiency in conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and training delivery skills.
- Ability to develop and implement H&S management systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized H&S qualification.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH, ISPON).
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience in emergency response planning and management.
